Working well. Treading lightly.

'Active Working is about a healthier life - and a healthier life happens on a healthier planet. We take both seriously'

Six ways we reduce our footprint

Solar energy on our warehouse

Our Coalville distribution warehouse is fitted with solar panels, reducing reliance on grid electricity and cutting the carbon intensity of every order we pick, pack and dispatch.

100% recyclable packaging

All Yo-Yo DESK® products ship in fully recyclable cardboard packaging. No styrofoam, no plastic void-fill, and packaging is kept to the minimum size that protects the product.

FSC®-certified desktops

Our British-made desktops use FSC®-certified sustainable timber, ensuring the wood in your desk comes from responsibly managed forests that are replenished over time.

Paperless operations

All invoices, delivery notes and customer communications are issued digitally. We have eliminated paper-based invoicing from our standard order process.

Reducing unnecessary transport

Where local disposal of end-of-life or damaged goods is safe and practical, we encourage it to avoid needless return journeys and unnecessary emissions.

Waste reduction across operations

We audit waste streams and work with warehouse and logistics partners to reduce landfill output, increase recycling and identify packaging reuse opportunities.

Our warehouse runs on sunshine

The solar array installed at our Coalville distribution centre generates a significant proportion of the electricity used across our warehouse operations, including lighting, handling equipment, charging systems and office facilities.

By reducing our reliance on grid electricity, we lower the operational carbon footprint of every order we pick, pack and dispatch from the site.

Less paper. Less waste. Less carbon.

Small decisions compound. Here is what our operational choices translate to in practice.

0paper invoices

All invoicing and documentation is 100% digital.

100%cardboard packaging

No plastic void-fill or expanded polystyrene used.

kWhsaved via solar

Warehouse solar generation reduces grid carbon draw.

When a product reaches the end of its life

Desks and desktops are designed to last. But when the time comes, the way a product is disposed of matters.

Local disposal is often the greener choice

When a desktop, frame component or accessory reaches the end of its useful life, the most environmentally responsible option is usually to dispose of it close to where it is, not arrange a collection and return journey that adds carrier emissions with no recovery value.

Most local authority household waste recycling centres and commercial waste contractors accept flat-pack office furniture components. MDF and chipboard desktops are accepted at the majority of UK recycling centres as wood waste. Where this is not possible, many local authorities offer bulky waste collection services for a modest fee.

If you are unsure where to dispose of your product, Recycle Now provides a postcode-based locator for your nearest facility.

A note on carrier collections: carrier collection, return to warehouse and subsequent disposal generates significantly more CO₂ than local disposal, and usually results in the same end outcome. Where we authorise local disposal, we are making the genuinely lower-impact choice.

In the unlikely event that your goods arrive damaged

We take great care to ensure your order reaches you in perfect condition. However, in the unlikely event that an item arrives damaged, please follow the steps below so we can resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

  1. Report it to us promptly. Contact our customer team as soon as possible after delivery. Provide photographs of the damaged item, packaging and courier label so we can process your claim quickly.
  2. Hold the goods safely. Please retain the damaged item until you hear from us. Do not dispose of, alter or use the goods before we have assessed your photographs and confirmed the next step in writing.
  3. We will confirm your resolution route. After reviewing your photographs, we will advise replacement dispatch, collection or return, or written authorisation for local disposal where the item has no recovery value.
  4. Where local disposal is authorised. We may ask for brief confirmation, such as a photograph or email. MDF and chipboard desktops should be taken to your nearest HWRC as wood waste wherever possible, rather than general landfill waste.

Our position on damaged goods and collection

We understand that customers may sometimes prefer us to collect damaged items, and we respect that preference. However, we ask you to consider the environmental reality:

  • A carrier collection from your location, return to our Coalville warehouse and subsequent disposal involves multiple vehicle journeys and generates CO₂ at every stage.
  • In the majority of cases, the item cannot be repaired, resold or recovered. The environmental outcome is identical, but the carbon cost of a carrier collection is considerably higher.
  • Local disposal at a household waste recycling centre or commercial waste facility takes minutes, incurs no carrier cost, and results in the same or better recycling outcome.
We will always comply with your statutory rights. Where we are legally required to arrange collection or bear the cost of return, we will do so. Our preference for local disposal is an environmental position, not a mechanism to avoid our obligations.
